Day 2 in Santa Cruz

Day 2 in Santa Cruz started with a mass at 8:30 in the morning.   This was followed by a procession through the village.  At the head of the procession was a statue of the virgin Mary carried by 6 people.

After the procession we walked to the school.

The statue of the virgin Mary was placed at the front of the school overlooking the coming activities.

A street in Santa Cruz
arriving at the schoolAfter arriving at the school, we were seated along the street and awaited a parade. This celebration was for the 59th anniversary of the school. For the celebration, schools in the neighboring villages were invited to participate. I estimate that at least five other villages participated, sending emissaries to represent them in the parade, and athletic teams for sports demonstrations to follow. The queen and princesses

The parade went on for close to an hour and a half.  It was fun to see school children marching and performing together and receiving recognition for their efforts.  I was amazed at how big a deal this anniversary was!  And the day was just beginning……more tomorrow.
